Preston Road

After our previous success in Brent, Caswell&Dainow acquired a nearby plot to provide more quality homes in the borough.

Supporting Brent Council's ambitions, this new-build, three-bedroom house, designed by Trewhela Williams, occupies a previously under-utilised wedge of land, transforming an overlooked corner plot into a distinctive addition to the street.

The design acts as a contemporary counterpoint to the neighbouring Tudorbethan semis, 60’s apartment blocks and 90’s estate.

The massing steps carefully to respect the neighbouring eaves and create a sculptural monolithic form that strengthens its prominent corner position. A simple gable silhouette addresses the road to the east, with subtle recesses and chamfers used to animate the street facades. The single-storey rear element is visually separated via a shadow gap, blending the building with the garden wall.

Materially, the house is defined by pale brickwork treated with a lime slurry to achieve a softly textured, chalky finish. White rendered window surrounds provide added visual interest, while flush precast copings and grey metal framed windows complete the restrained palette, referencing common white render finishes found in the surrounding buildings.

Internally, living spaces benefit from carefully placed rooflights, keeping the spaces bright and airy. The layout provides flexible family living across two floors, with private amenity spaces in both front and rear gardens. Extensive planting, permeable surfaces and green roofs contribute to a robust urban greening strategy, enhancing both ecology and setting.

This project highlights our skills working with the local planners to unlock land to create a stunning one-off homes where others may not think it's possible.
